A suspect had been arrested in connection with a non-fatal shooting that happened around 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, at Iroquois High School on Taylor Boulevard, according to Louisville Metro Police Department.
Police have arrested 41 year-old Gerrard Harris in connection with the shooting.
On Saturday afternoon, officers responded to the track near the football field and located an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound to his left thigh.
Officers said there were about 300 people at the school for a little league football game at the time.
Harris was identified through witness interviews, surveillance video review, and evidence recovered during the investigation.
Police said witnesses described the suspect as a Black male wearing an all-gray tracksuit, who was seen jumping a fence around the football field and fleeing.
LMPD’s K-9 unit and investigators used the suspect’s path on surveillance video and recovered a gun in front of a home on Walter Avenue, according to police.
Police say an officer later spotted a person matching the suspect description near Taylor Boulevard and Oakwood Avenue and detained him around 9:37 p.m.
Police also say Harris resisted a gunshot residue test by trying to keep his hands closed and sitting on his hands.
Harris is charged with Assault 1st Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Disorderly Conduct 1st Degree, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Unlawful possession of a weapon on school property, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, obstructing governmental operations, and firearms discharge prohibited.
The victim was transported to UofL Hospital for treatment.
