Louisville Fire Department crews contained a structure fire Sunday afternoon in the 200 block of South 23rd Street, after flames spread from 222 South 23rd Street into a neighboring residence.
Firefighters were dispatched around 1:01 p.m. and found heavy fire in the rear of the building, including the second-floor “camelback” areas of both structures. Crews used multiple handlines and master streams to stop the spread, bringing the fire under control by about 1:44 p.m.
About 40 firefighters responded. Residents in the adjacent home were evacuated safely; three adults were displaced, and the American Red Cross was contacted.
No injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation by Louisville Fire arson investigators.
