Hardin County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 75 block of Battle Drive in Elizabethtown for a reported active domestic disturbance just before 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 27.
As deputies arrived on scene, they heard a single gunshot coming from inside the residence. A short time later, an adult female exited the home suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.
Deputies immediately rendered aid while securing the scene. The female victim was transported by Hardin County EMS to Baptist Health Hardin for medical treatment and was later released.
Due to the possibility that an armed suspect remained inside the residence, the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team was activated. After making entry and conducting a systematic search of the home, team members located an adult male inside suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office.
The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit are continuing to investigate the incident.
