A 17-year-old male has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins that have occurred since early July.
On July 30, First Division Detectives with the Louisville Metro Police Department, with assistance from the University of Louisville Police Department and multiple healthcare security partners, located and arrested the juvenile suspect. Investigators had observed the suspect breaking into parked vehicles in the area since mid-July.
During the arrest, detectives recovered two firearms from the suspect. Investigators state they believe the teenager did not act alone, and the investigation remains active as they search for additional suspects.
Authorities emphasized that firearms stolen from vehicles present a significant public safety risk, as they are often later used in violent crimes.
To help prevent thefts, police are advising vehicle owners who keep firearms in their cars to secure them in a locked safe or box, keep them out of sight, lock their vehicles, and avoid leaving weapons inside vehicles overnight.
