A Louisville woman is being charged with multiple felonies after allegedly trying to kidnap an 8-year-old girl and then break into her home.
According to court records, 42 year-old Charra Lewis was arrested Saturday, August 1, and charged with attempted kidnapping of a minor and attempted second-degree burglary.
Court documents suggest Louisville Metro police were flagged down by the victim’s family, who reported the incident.
The 8-year-old victim told officers she was on the sidewalk across from her house when Lewis approached her, asked if she needed help finding her mother, and tried to give her an item. According to the citation, the child ran back toward her house as Lewis allegedly chased after her in an attempt to restrain her.
The victim made it inside and locked the door.
The police citation alleged Lewis then grabbed a metal garden pole and began beating on the door to get in, damaging a window screen. Officers also found a handprint left on the side of the house.
Lewis was stopped by officers later, and she reportedly claimed she believed the kids did not belong to the victim’s mother and that she was trying to take them to “save” them.
Lewis is scheduled for arraignment on Monday, August 3, at 9 a.m.
