
The Central City Fire Department responded to a residential house explosion in the 400 block of North 5th Street in Central City early Tuesday morning. The department cited “numerous exposures.”
One adult male, the home owner, was found with severe burns and and significant injuries according to the Central City Fire Department Chief, Phillip Groves. The home owner was airlifted to a regional trauma center and is in critical condition.
The Central City Fire Department confirmed the fire had been put out but officials were still at the scene as of 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The Kentucky State Fire Marshall’s Office was also on the scene and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were also expected to join the scene.
Central City Fire Department also confirmed that an additional four other homes have been damaged from the explosion. They stated that occupants have been displaced and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
