A jury found a semitruck driver guilty in connection with a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 64 that killed a 25-year-old man.
In 2024, 60 year-old Richard Piper was driving an 18-wheeler on I-64 near the Gene Snyder Freeway when he crashed into a truck during rush hour traffic in a construction zone. The crash triggered a chain reaction involving five other vehicles.
Colton Tanner was killed.
Investigators said Piper’s blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit at the time of the crash.
A jury found Piper guilty of murder and wanton endangerment and recommended a 20-year prison sentence.
Piper is scheduled to be sentenced October 16.
