A man arrested in California was formally indicted in connection with a July shooting that left one man dead and another injured in downtown Louisville.
Marlon Luis Porro Duane, 25, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury on charges of complicity to murder, attempted murder and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment involving the discharge of a firearm, according to Jefferson Circuit Court records.
Officers initially responded around 4:15 a.m. on July 19 to reports of gunfire near an alley in the 600 block of South 3rd Street. Police found 28-year-old Giovani Castillo Garcia suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers rendered first aid until Louisville Metro EMS arrived, but Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.
A few hours later, a man arrived at UofL Hospital by private vehicle with a gunshot wound to the leg. Investigators determined that both shootings were connected.
Following the investigation, U.S. Marshals tracked Duane to Indio, California, where he was taken into custody.
Duane was formally indicted on August 17, and his arrest warrant was served on Friday, September 11. A judge set Duane’s bond at $100,000 full cash.
Duane is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, September 14
The Louisville Metro Police Department stated the investigation remains active.
