
A man has been arrested and charged in connection to the disappearance and death of an 11-month-old in Muhlenberg County.
On Saturday, September 12, around 5:10 p.m., the Central City Police Department responded to a disturbance report in the 800 block of Harrison Avenue, according to media release. Upon arrival, officers met with the father of an 11-month-old child. The father said the child was supposed to be in the care of Elijah Mayes while he was at work.
During an interview at the scene, Mayes told officers that a family friend had picked up the child at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday, September 11, according to the media release. Officers found and interviewed that person who said she had not picked up the child. A relative also said they last saw the child with Mayes at a home in the 300 block of Hillview Street in Cleaton on Friday.
Officials said as the investigation continued, additional interviews were conducted at the Central City Police Department. Investigators got a search warrant for a home and vehicle in the 800 block of Harrison Avenue.
While the search warrant was being executed suspected methamphetamine was found inside the home, according to the media release. A second search warrant was obtained for a home and vehicle in the 300 block of Hillview Street .
During the execution of the second search warrant, 11-month-old Grayson Walton was found dead inside the Hillview Street Cleaton home, according to the media release.
Elijah Mayes, 19, of Central City was arrested and taken to the Muhlenberg County Detention Center. He is charged with:
Murder
Criminal abuse in the first-degree
Tampering with physical evidence
Abuse of a corpse
Possession of a controlled substance in the first-degree, methamphetamine.
