A Hopkinsville man is facing multiple charges after police responded to a domestic disturbance Thursday night.
Deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office were called to Peach Street just before 8:30 p.m. for a report of a disturbance involving 25 year-old Devin Buttrum.
As deputies arrived, they saw Buttrum speeding in a van back to the home, nearly hitting a neighbor who was in the driveway.
Through investigation, deputies said they learned Buttrum had assaulted his pregnant girlfriend by throwing several things at her, like an open pocketknife, hitting her with a grill in the stomach, hitting her with a closed first, and putting his hands on her neck and throat.
Buttrum also damaged several things in the home, including the woman’s phone before she was able to get away to a neighbor’s home.
Deputies said he also hit a vehicle in the driveway when he was trying to leave the home and admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana.
Devin Buttrum is charged with first-degree assault, domestic violence, second-degree strangulation – domestic violence, interfering with communications, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief, and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, according to a media release from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office. He is being held in the Christian County Detention Center under a $105,000 cash bond.
The woman was evaluated by Hopkinsville EMS but did not want to be taken to the hospital.
