A Louisville man was arrested Wednesday after police said he left the scene of an accident, assaulting the victim when confronted.
Robert Williams, 42, is facing the following charges, according to court documents:
Terroristic threatening (third degree)
Wanton endangerment (first degree)
Driving on a DUI suspended license (first offense)
Assault resulting in minor injury (fourth degree)
Leaving the scene of an accident/Failure to render aid or assistance
Driving with a license/Negligence in accident
Failure of owner to maintain require insurance
On Wednesday at about 3 p.m., Louisville Metro Police officers responded to a hit-and-run collision in the 4100 block of Taylor Boulevard that occurred at the 3700 block of Woodruff Avenue.
Officers on scene said a witness saw Williams side swipe his vehicle and flee the scene. The witness said he then followed Williams to Sunshine Liquors on Taylor Boulevard to confront him, according to his arrest citation.
Williams reportedly exited his vehicle and punched the witness in the face. Afterwards, he got back into his vehicle, backed into the witness’ vehicle, and began circling his vehicle around the block and in the parking lot area.
Williams was also seen on video surveillance backing up his vehicle in attempt to run over the witness. Police said he tried to run him over twice. Williams fled the scene before officers arrived.
A friend of the victim followed William’s vehicle, ultimately ending up at the LMPD Training Academy where he was detained, according to his arrest citation.
Officers said Williams had slurred speech, glossy eyes and was unsteady on his feet. They also found several unopened Fireball shooters both in his vehicle and on his person.
Officers on scene witnessed Williams threaten to kill the victim when he gets out of jail.
Williams is currently being held at Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. He was expected in court for his arraignment on September 24.
