A LaRue County woman who investigators say was trying to help animals is charged with animal cruelty and harboring a vicious animal.
Jane Embry applied for a kennel license Tuesday. When an animal control officer went to inspect her property he found dozens of dogs and cats there.
Sheriff Russell McCoy says Embry had good intentions but ended up harming the animals instead of helping them.
Embry said the animals were not mistreated or suffering. She said shelters gave her animals to take care of, and she has been trying to comply with regulations but has been given some wrong advice.
Officials say most of Embry’s animals appear to be healthy.
Embry is free on a $1,000 bond but will be back in court Wednesday.
