A south central Kentucky sheriff’s department officers are striking after the Butler County Sheriff’s budget was tabled during the county Fiscal Court meeting Monday night (12/14).
Butler County Sheriff Scottie Ward made a statement on social media after the Fiscal Court meeting Monday night. He said in the statement that county leaders have had his budget since November 10 and some still had not reviewed it for the proposed vote this week. The sheriff said magistrates voted to table the budget until December 28 which will hinder Sheriff Ward in having funds to run his department on January 1.
Sheriff Ward said in a follow up statement on social media that he had reduced his budget by $5,000 from last year’s budget and his deputies had not received any pay raises. Sheriff Ward said that his office would be open to collect taxes and provide court security. He is urging county residents to contact their magistrates.
