A female youth was found dead on Monday at Lincoln Village Regional Juvenile Detention Center on New Glendale Road in Elizabethtown, according to a news release from the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet.
The agency said the girl was found unresponsive at the facility early Monday morning. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown is in charge of the investigation. The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice is also investigating the incident.
The last in-custody death of a juvenile at a the Department of Juvenile Justice facility happened in 1999, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
