Vine Grove City Council unanimously approved a zoning request that paves the way for Scotty’s Contracting & Stone LLC of Bowling Green to build an asphalt plant.
The vote changes 63 acres off Hill Street near its intersection with Lincoln Trail Boulevard from agricultural to Commercial 3 or Industrial zones. Council followed a July 18 recommendation of the city’s planning and zoning commission.
Jim Scott, CEO of Scotty’s, said the 50 or so employees of the new plant will average about $40,000 a year.
Mayor Blake Proffitt said that would provide a major boost to the city’s payroll tax revenue.
Proffitt said the company did not seek and will not receive any tax incentives from the city.
Scott said site work could begin as early as next week. He said Scotty’s has 13 plants around the state, including one in Leitchfield.
