An Elizabethtown man is charged with criminal abuse of his 5-month-old daughter after telling authorities he “yanked” her by the left arm, fracturing it, according to his arrest citation.
The child was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital Thursday for examination 12 hours after 22 year-old Robert Steffey, III said he heard a “pop” when he reached over an arm of his couch, grabbed the child and twisted her around so she could rest on his chest. According to Steffey’s arrest citation, he heard the child’s arm “pop” when he pulled her upward.
The child was diagnosed with a spiral fracture in her left arm and was transferred to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville for high level care.
Steffey is charged with second-degree criminal abuse, under the age of 12, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison, if convicted.
Steffey was arrested Friday morning and is being held in lieu of a $10,000 cash bond at the Hardin County Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Monday in Hardin District Court.
