Accused of sexually abusing a female student-athlete, LaRue County High School girls’ basketball head coach Simon Ford resigned Monday.
The district immediately suspended Ford with pay after being notified of the allegations September 7 by a parent of a student. In addition to conducting its own internal investigation, school officials notified Kentucky State Police.
LaRue County Schools Superintendent Sam Sanders said the school district continues to cooperate with law enforcement while keeping the safety of the students as a top priority.
Ford was indicted Monday for first-degree sexual abuse by a LaRue County grand jury, according to a court official. He is scheduled to be arraigned October 4 on the Class D felony.
