An early morning structure fire destroyed a restaurant at Axtel early Wednesday (2/22) morning.
According to McDaniels Fire Chief David Poole, heavy smoke was found coming from the Knotty Pine Restaurant around 3:30 a.m. Firemen worked about three and half hours to extinguish the flames. Highway 79 was closed for a couple of hours as firemen attempted to gain control of the fire. The building was a total loss.
Fire crews from McDaniels, Custer, Harned, and Hardinsburg Fire Departments cleared the scene just after 7 a.m. Wednesday morning as the fire officials and Kentucky State Fire Marshall began the investigation of what caused the blaze. Upon the preliminary findings of the investigation, fire officials believe the fire was electrical in nature.
No injuries were reported.
