Members of the Brandenburg City Council was given a presentation of a twenty year regional facilities plan for the city’s waste water treatment plant Monday evening.
The council met during a public hearing prior to their regular meeting to hear the presentation by Joe Povani and Nicholas Gunselman of GRW Engineers on the ongoing facilities plan for the waste water treatment plant. The plan calls for city leaders to update the facility which is approximately twenty five years old. The modification project would cost the city an estimated $3.3 million dollars. Among the items the proposal calls for a transition to a different filtering method, and repairs to the lagoon liner.
The plan has already been submitted to state regulators and the Lincoln Trail Area Development District for consideration of funding for the project. The project could increase sewer rates up to fifty percent more than the current rate if the city leaders move forward with the project. If approved, the project would have a completion date of March 2022. The city council approved a resolution to adapt the required plan at Monday night’s meeting. They did not take any action on the proposed project.
In other business, the council voted to table the ordinance amendment which would allow alcohol sales for holidays that fall on a Sunday. The council had a stale mate at the November meeting on the issue. In Monday night’s meeting the council decided to review a amendment for New Years Eve only only to find that the language was not in line with the current ordinance on related to the hours of alcohol sales. The council will have the city attorney to redraft the ordinance for a special called meeting to discuss and vote on the issue before the holidays in question.
Council members approved December 25 and 26 as holidays for city hall to be closed.
