
Members of the Meade County Fiscal Court provided two groups assistants to provide honor to their cause during their regular meeting Tuesday (11/13) night.
During the public session, members of Zion Grove Baptist Church asked the court for funds to install a historical marker at the church site which would tell the history of the church, which is one of the oldest churches in Meade County. After some discussion of the request, magistrates approved $2,500 toward the cast placard. Also during the public session, Darryl Durbin asked on behalf of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Elizabethtown Chapter 1051 if the group could gain approval to install signs to honor eight Vietnam Veterans in Meade County. The signs would be of similar to regular road signs that would be placed on two metal posts along the specific roads at the residence of the veterans. The addresses and known road names would not be changed by the project. Fiscal Court approved the request.
During the business session, Fiscal Court approved Luke Goodin from the the Flaherty area to the County Planning and Zoning Commission. They also approved the 2019 health insurance rates presented by John Beavin of Kentucky Farm Bureau. Beavin informed the court that rates had increased by eighteen percent with no major changes other than an increase of up to $1,000 of out of pocket pay and some physicians co pay increase to $40. Beavin said that the wellness campaign of county employees has earned a $5,200 credit for the county. The court approved keeping the core policy for county employees.
Fiscal Court approved and set the Inauguration Ceremony for all county elected officials on Sunday, January 6 at 3 pm in the auditorium of Meade County High School.
The court also approved a resolution to used $11,805 of Lincoln Trail Area Development Funds to use toward the box swap of a ambulance for Meade County EMS. The process refurbishes the existing box and replacing the truck and chassis to reduce the expense by half of a new ambulance. The Court gave pre-approval to proceed with the seeking bids for the next swap on a ambulance that has over 300,000 miles. The estimated cost of the box swap is around $68,000 a truck.
