Two men were charged Monday in connection with a July shooting in Louisville’s Newburg neighborhood.
Louisville Metro Police said 21 year-old Da’Ron Jones turned himself Monday evening. He is charged with complicity to assault in the first and second degree, wanton endangerment and robbery.
Cayden Blakey, 20, was also arrested Monday evening. He faces the same charges.
The arrests come nearly four months after the July 8 shooting on East Indian Trail. A third man, 19-year-old Gabriel Eduardo Rodriguez, was previously arrested in connection with the case.
According to arrest citations, Rodriguez met Jones and Blakey for a firearm transaction before the shooting. Rodriguez got into their vehicle, where one of the men pulled a handgun and told him to leave his money behind.
Police said Rodriguez left about $600 in the vehicle before returning to his car. Police said Jones and Blakey then drove away.
Later that evening, a man and woman were driving along East Indian Trail when they passed a vehicle engulfed in flames. Both told police they heard a loud bang before realizing they had been shot.
The man suffered a graze wound to his right arm, while the woman was shot in the head. Court records said the bullet could not be removed and remains permanently lodged in her skull.
Both were taken to UofL Hospital for treatment.
Police later found the vehicle involved in the shooting near the 4900 block of Poplar Level Road. Investigators identified Jones and Blakey as its occupants, according to the citations.
Rodriguez was previously identified as the driver of a second vehicle involved in the shooting. He was charged with complicity to first- and second-degree assault, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and receiving a stolen firearm.
Rodriguez pleaded not guilty and posted a partially secured $25,000 bond. As part of his release, he is prohibited from possessing weapons or contacting the victims and witnesses.
Jones and Blakey were arraigned Tuesday morning, where a judge set a $100,000 bond for both men.
