
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court worked through their regular business session Tuesday (12/11) night.
Judge Executive Gerry Lynn read a proclamation for flags to be lowered to half staff on Thursday, December 13 in honor and memory of county road employee Pius Gene Hobbs, who was killed in a on the job accident in 2016. The remembrance is to bring awareness to work place safety.
The court set the 2019 holiday schedule which will match the dates of state holidays during the upcoming calendar year. Magistrates approved the cash payment of $100,000 in lieu of bond for the Golden Heights development near Flaherty. The developer wants to construct the road into his development and avoid setting a road service district for his thirteen lots which he will continue own once construction is completed. County leaders approved setting an escrow to place the money in to draw funds from in order to properly construct the road to be ready to place the main top coat once all heavy construction is completed.
The court approved a resolution to support a state effort to reformulate road funds in the commonwealth. The effort would impact how counties would receive funding to maintain roadways. Magistrates approved the the renewal of contracts with the county building and electrical inspectors at the same rates as previous year. Parks Director Dan Lancaster reported to Fiscal Court a fifty three percent gross profit was made at the concession stand at Meade-Olin Park during the 2018 sports season. County Road Supervisor Jeff Padgett asked approval from magistrates to seeks bids on two new dump trucks. The bids will price a single tandem and double tandem truck with a combined estimated cost of $242,000. He also said that he looking to find a new cold patch truck to replace the current truck which the frame was broken on. Padgett said the replacement truck would be sought under the $20,000 price threshold to need to the court’s approval to purchase.
After a short closed session to discuss personnel issues, magistrates voted to terminate one full time person and promote a part time person to full time at the Solid Waste and Recycling Center. The court also approved the placement of ads for a one full time and one part time position at Meade County EMS. The court approved the hiring of a truck driver at the County Road Department.
