
The Brandenburg City Council approved a street name change during their regular monthly meeting Monday (1/14) night.
Mayor Ronnie Joyner said that it was recently discovered there were two streets named Overlook Terrace. Both are in the Brandenburg zip code but several miles apart. One is off of Broadway Street in Brandenburg while other is in Doe Valley. The discovery of the issue was made after a EMS call was given for a residence on Overlook Terrace causing the medical responders to go to the wrong location. Mayor Joyner said that he suggested the one inside city limits to be changed to Sams Way in honor of a former business owner that the street passes along. The council unanimously approved the recommendation.
In other business, City Clerk Amy Haynes reported that the 274 credit cards transactions were made during December. She also said totals for the annual Christmas By The River remained low this year when compared to the traffic count from each night of the event.
Police Chief Brian Haag reported that he is working on grant funding to purchase new bullet proof vests for each officer in the department. The grants would be awarded next year. He also introduced Daniel Waddell as a new patrol officer. Waddell is a former school resource officer with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and was previously employed by the New Albany Police Department. Chief Haag said the officer Tim Hendley has been promoted to Sergeant. Haag said the department is back to full strength.
The council met during a fifteen minute closed session to discuss possible litigation which resulted in no action by the council.
The next scheduled meeting of the Brandenburg City Council will be held on Monday, February 11 at 7 pm.
