Strong to severe thunderstorms moved through the region Thursday morning, with wind damage reported in the McDaniels area.
The most significant was in the area of the Ben Johnson Elementary School where the school suffered extensive roof damage the also led to water damage inside the building. Most of the damage was in the gymnasium area.
Students and staff were taken to the Breckinridge County High School while school and emergency officials assessed the damage. No students or staff was in the building when the damage occurred, therefore there were no injuries.
Other damage was reported south of the school with roof damage at the King’s Table Restaurant and a nearby barn with roof blown off. A carport at the Peter Cave General Store was also blown over.
