Hardin County Sheriff’s Department has issued a scam alert concerning emails some residents have received lately.
The email states the resident has a traffic citation from the sheriff’s department that must be paid within 72 hours. The resident is advised not to mail a check to the sheriff’s office because all citations must be paid through their EasyPay Center, which has a hyperlink to click on.
As with any unexpected contact, always discontinue communication and verify information independently. Never click links or respond to callers that you are not expecting or seem anxious to have you act quickly.
This is definitely a scam.
