On Wednesday, multiple women were arrested and charged after an investigation into the June overdose death of an Elkton man.
On June 18, detectives with the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force were called to a residence on Williams Hill Road in Elkton, about a possible overdose.
Once they arrived, a 21-year-old man was pronounced dead inside the residence by Deputy Coroner Mike Tino Cunnife. After an examination by the medical examiner’s office, a toxicology report revealed that the man died from a fentanyl overdose.
During the investigation, detectives gained information on 32-year-old Whitney Harper. Detectives located her at her residence and she was taken to the Christian County Sheriff’s Office. During questioning, Harper admitted to supplying the deceased male with fentanyl.
She told police she received money for the fentanyl and used it to purchase 25 Xananx from one of the male’s family members.
Further investigation revealed that 62-year-old Kimberly Moorefield of Hopkinsville, the grandmother of the victim, and his mother 41-year-old Shannon Moorefield of Elkton aided in his death.
Harper was arrested on July 2nd and charged with second-degree manslaughter.
Shannon was charged with complicity to second-degree manslaughter, trafficking fentanyl, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (drug unspecified), and third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
Kimberly was charged with complicity to second-degree manslaughter.
The investigation was a joint effort by the Todd County Sheriff’s Office and the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force.
