Three juveniles and one adult were arrested, and two guns were seized after fights broke out at Fest-A-Ville for the second night in a row.
According to Louisville Metro Police Spokesperson Matt Sanders, the department increased its presence around the downtown waterfront area on Sunday, April 26, as a proactive safety measure following multiple fights that broke out the night before.
Sanders says that between around 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., the Fest-a-Ville venue reached maximum capacity and stopped allowing entry to the event. Large groups of unaccompanied juveniles are said to have then begun gathering in the area before moving to Waterfront Park, primarily at the base of the Big 4 Bridge.
Officers reportedly witnessed multiple disturbances by the groups, including fights and the use of pepper spray, with an officer being assaulted as a result of trying to break up one fight involving juvenile females.
Louisville Metro Police Department says three juveniles and one adult were arrested, and two guns were recovered following the incidents, with dozens of officers responding to restore order and ensure public safety.
Sgt. Sanders said Louisville Metro Police Department will continue to deploy resources as necessary to protect the public and maintain safety in the downtown entertainment areas, however, it is critically important for parents and guardians to know where their children are, who they are with, and what they are doing, especially during large events. These ongoing issues involve unaccompanied juveniles placing themselves, and others, at risk.
The adult taken into custody was identified as Elijah Cummings, who is being charged with menacing, terroristic threats, fleeing from police and tampering with physical evidence.
The varying charges for the three juveniles include assaulting an officer, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, wanton endangerment, fleeing from police, disorderly conduct and possession of a firearm by a minor.
