Louisville Metro Police announced Friday the arrest of a man suspected of a month-long crime spree that included multiple stolen cars.
Police announced the arrest of 47 year-old Jason McGill following a string of crimes that began with a stolen Honda CR-V on December 10 and ended with an arrest at the Oxmoor Mall on Tuesday, January 7.
In addition to the stolen Honda on December 10, police alleges McGill robbed a Big O Tires and stole rare jewelry from the home of an 88-year-old woman on Christmas Eve. On December 26, police said McGill used a stolen license place, broke into another car and attempted to use stolen credit cards to make a purchase.
Police said that McGill stole another license plate from a different CR-V to put on his stolen Honda on December 28 and robbed a Kaiser Tire on Southside Drive and stole a Jeep on January 3, and robbed the AutoWerks on Belmar Drive on January 4, stealing a Volkswagen Jetta. On January 6, police said McGill broke into Homewood Suites on Central Avenue and stole around $100,000 of fiberoptic equipment.
Louisville Metro Police Department detectives arrested McGill in front of the Dick’s Sporting Goods in Oxmoor Mall. They said he rammed two police cars before being arrested. He was armed at the time of the arrest. Upon searching the car, police found suspected meth, rare-looking jewelry, fiberoptic equipment, automotive scanners, keys belonging to mechanic shops, two additional pistols and clothing seen on surveillance videos of other burglaries.
McGill is facing several charges including robbery, three counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, wanton endangerment, evading police, possession of methamphetamine, and other charges in relation to a number of other cases.
