Members of Meade County Fiscal Court met during their regular meeting Tuesday (3/11) and received a special designation from the National Weather Service.
Michael Kochasic, forecaster with the National Weather Service in Louisville, presented county officials with the latest Storm Ready designation. He said that the Meade County Emergency Management team had worked hard to achieve the level of preparedness through planning and community education to provide information not only to the community but also by working the National Weather Service on several initiatives to assist with sharing real time information. Kochasic presented Emergency Management Director Jeff Cox and members of the Fiscal Court a metal sign along with documents of the accomplishment. This comes on the heels of the Kentucky Severe Weather Awareness Week and just ahead of the 51st anniversary of the April 1974 tornado outbreak. Cox said that a upcoming community event related to preparedness will be held on March 25 at the Meade County Extension Office which will feature several local businesses and agencies to help citizens learn more about being ready for disaster events. In old business, magistrates voted to table a proposed advertising sign ordinance for Planning and Zoning until after several groups were able to conduct a work session to further discuss differences on the issue. The court approved the a payscale amendment and the appointment of Lucy Hager to the Board of Assessment Appeals and the reappointments of Wesley Prather and Allen Stivers to the Water District Board as part of the consent agenda.
In new business, the court heard and update and received a request of funding from members of the Meade County Senior Citizens Center. Greg Whelan thanked county leaders for their previous support and asked them to consider assisting with a some of the ongoing projects to continue to update the facility. The court took no action on the request. Magistrates approved petitions for consideration to Burgundy Lane and Adams Way in to the county road system. The County Road Department will provide residents of each road estimates of materials to bring the road into standard and will have one year to raise money before the county will accept them into the system.
Magistrates approved an easement related to a sewer line from Nucor to the Brandenburg Waste Water Treatment Plant. They also approved to seek bids on one single axle and one tandem axle dump trucks for the county road department. The court heard the second reading of the Property Maintenance Code ordinance. They also the first reading of Planning and Zoning ordinance related to level three Solar Energy Systems which would require new incoming solar companies to bring the project before three county board before a permit would be issued and then would be required to adhere to project specific requirements. The court also approved the second readings of two Planning and Zoning map amendments. Magistrates also approved two resolutions related to KY911 Service Board Grants for the E911 Center.
