Law enforcement arrested a Louisville woman Tuesday following an investigation into an alleged attempt to bring narcotics into the Louisville jail.
The Louisville Metro Department of Corrections Professional Standards Unit and the United States Postal Inspection Service began the investigation after a “suspicious envelope” containing suspected drugs was intercepted before it could reach someone housed in the jail.
Detectives learned the suspected drugs were concealed within mail in an attempt to introduce the substances into the facility, according to law enforcement.
As a result of the investigation, Louisville Metro Department of Corrections detectives arrested 43-year-old Kimberly Stayton, of Louisville, for mailing the suspected drugs.
Stayton is charged with promoting contraband, trafficking in a controlled substance and forgery. She was lodged in the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.
The person who it was addressed to is expected to face additional charges, including complicity to trafficking in a controlled substance and complicity to promoting contraband.
