Two teenagers were arrested this week and charged with murder in connection with a shooting near a bus stop in Louisville’s Park Duvalle neighborhood that killed a 16-year-old girl.
Louisville Metro Police said Wednesday that Flock cameras helped locate and arrest the two suspects.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said Dannady Greene died Monday morning at UofL Hospital after being shot around 8 a.m. August 25 near a bus stop at Beech Street and Wyandotte Avenue.
Jefferson County Public Schools previously confirmed Greene was a Valley High School student and said district police responded with Louisville Metro Police near a bus stop on Beech Street.
Family members previously said there had been an ongoing issue between Greene and another teen. Greene’s cousin, Kimberly Burns, said Greene had walked away from a fight before she was shot.
Louisville Metro Police Department said witnesses saw a girl and boy exit the vehicle that approached Greene. After Greene said she wouldn’t fight the girl, the boy allegedly loaded a round into the chamber of a handgun and said “You’re going to fight them or I’m going to shoot you.”
Police said that is when Greene ran away and was shot. According to Louisville Metro Police Department, Flock cameras helped them track the suspect vehicle as it traveled toward southern Indiana.
Officers with the Jeffersonville Police Department were able to find the suspect’s vehicle at an apartment complex and provide Louisville Metro Police Department with video of the occupants.
Police said the two people inside the vehicle matched the descriptions given by witnesses.
A search warrant executed at the apartment resulted in two people being detained and officers finding two handguns, with one tucked away in an HVAC system. LMPD’s Forensic Unit was able to identify the hidden handgun as the murder weapon.
Five days later, further DNA testing was able to match the evidence with the two suspects detained at the apartment.
Police said the suspects were 16 and 17 years old at the time of the shooting but one of them just turned 18.
The girl was arrested Monday by Louisville Metro Police and the boy turned himself in Tuesday.
According to police, they are both charged with murder and being a minor in possession of a handgun. The teen boy was also charged with tampering with physical evidence.
Louisville Metro Police Department said they will push for the two to be charged as adults.
