While Labor Day weekend traditionally marks the unofficial end of summer, doctors are reminding residents that the dangers of summer heat are far from over.
With many families planning to spend the holiday weekend outdoors swimming, hiking, or attending gatherings, medical professionals are urging everyone to understand the critical signs of overheating and heat-related illnesses.
“
Dr. Aaron Kuzel with UofL Hospital said you want to be aggressively hydrating yourself throughout the day and if you start to feel symptoms of dizziness, start to feel symptoms of excessive sweating, feeling like you are going to pass out, it is time to call 911 emergency and be seen in the ER.
According to Dr. Kuzel, heat impacts everyone differently depending on genetics, overall bodily functions, and pre-existing medical conditions.
If you must work or play outdoors this weekend, health experts say it is vital to take as many breaks in the shade or air conditioning as you need, and never wait until you are thirsty to start drinking water.
