Airports across the US are on high alert following the recent terror attacks in Paris and continuous threats from terror organizations.
For the first time in nearly a year, the US State Department is warning travelers of an increased risk to Americans, especially those traveling abroad.
The updated travel alert was issued following threats from terrorist groups such as ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and Boko Haram. The heightened alert advises American citizens who travel to avoid crowds and be vigilant in public places. The alert expires February 24th.
TSA inspectors are being even more thorough now because of all the concerns, meaning it will take more time for each person to be screened.
With record holiday travel expected this week, those going through airports can expect longer waits at security checkpoints. Those flying can expect more random hand swabbing for explosive residue, bomb-sniffing dogs, laptop checks and shoe removals, even if you have TSA Pre-Check.
About 47 Million Americans are expected to travel for Thanksgiving. That’s the highest number since 2007.
The vast majority of travelers, around 42 Million, are expected to drive, while another 3.6 million will fly, the forecast says.
With more people being off on Wednesday, the crowds will start earlier in the day.
