The Nelson County Sheriff’s Department is advising the community to lock their residences and vehicles as the search continues for a man they say should be considered armed and dangerous.
Stephen Halsey, 57, is wanted for parole violation and absconding parole supervision. Authorities believe he may be hiding in the Icetown area.
Authorities say Halsey has a lengthy criminal history including assault, burglary, rape and arson. He was released on parole from Owensboro December 1 from serving time for second-degree burglary and failure to comply with sex offender registration.
Records show that Halsey has a criminal record dating back to 1986, with offenses occurring in Nelson, Fayette, Marion, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan and Rowan counties.
According to a report, Halsey was spotted twice, once at 11:30 a.m. and again at 6:30 p.m., on a trail cam on December 30 around the 1700 block of Icetown Road.
Officials advised residents in the area to lock their residences and vehicles, warning that Halsey may be looking for food and shelter.
Police say Halsey is a white male, about 5’8″ and 180 pounds. He has brown hair and green eyes.
