A Bardstown man was found with baggies of marijuana and approximately $3,600 in cash in his crotch area after a traffic stop Thursday afternoon.
John C. Lewis, 28, is charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, second offense marijuana trafficking, promoting contraband, tampering with physical evidence and traffic violation.
At approximately 12:55 p.m. Thursday Lewis was stopped by officer Kyle Wright for a traffic offense. Wright obtained consent to search the vehicle and detected the odor of marijuana on, or about, Lewis and the vehicle.
After discovering the baggies of marijuana and the cash on Lewis, he was warned about promoting contraband prior to being taken into the Nelson County Jail. Lewis denied having narcotics on his person. However, a detailed search of his person at the jail revealed two bags of cocaine hidden on his person as well.
The investigation is ongoing.
