
An Elizabethtown man shot and killed a fellow employee at KFC/Taco Bell on Buffalo Creek Drive in Elizabethtown Thursday (2/25/) evening.
Ryan Birse, 22, of Elizabethtown, was shot nine times by 27 year-old Joshua Lee Ratliff. Birse was pronounced dead at Hardin Memorial Hospital, according to an Elizabethtown Police Department news release.
Ratliff entered the restaurant where he worked, located Birse and fired at him multiple times, according to the arrest citation. The incident was captured on surveillance video at the business.
No motive for the shooting has been released.
Ratliff then left the business in a black Explorer and led multiple police agencies on a pursuit on Interstate 65 with speeds reaching 90 MPH before he was caught. He was booked at 11 p.m. Thursday and is being held in lieu of a $500,000 cash bond at the Hardin County Detention Center.
Elizabethtown Police Department, Kentucky State Police, Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and Hardin County EMS were on the crime scene.
He is charged with murder, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), speeding 20 mph over the speed limit, disregarding a stop sign and improper passing.
The shooting was reported around 6:30 p.m.
