The sheriff of Grayson County will not be charged criminally after fatally shooting a man last year.
A grand jury declined to indict Sheriff Norman Chaffins in the death of 66-year-old Chris E. Hidgon, according to the prosecutor’s office.
State police, who investigated the shooting, said the sheriff and another officer were responding to a report of a disturbance on December 9, 2015, when Higdon approached them in the driveway with a gun.
Chaffins fired three shots, killing Higdon. Neither the sheriff nor the other officer was injured.
