The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a scam.
Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins said his department has received numerous calls about a man calling residents and identifying himself by the name of an actual Grayson County Deputy.
The caller tells victims they missed a court date, and demands they place $500 on a prepaid card, give him the numbers and turn themselves into the sheriff’s office to be booked.
At least three people have fallen victim to the scam and paid the $500, with several others coming by the sheriff’s office before doing so.
The Grayson County Sheriff Office said they will never call and demand or ask for money for any reason.
If at anytime someone has a question related to a phone call they’ve received, they are encouraged to call 270-259-3024 to confirm the call.
Sheriff Chaffins said once scammers realize the department is on to them, they will likely move to another county in an attempt to scam more people.
If residents receive such calls, they should contact their local law enforcement agency.
