The Elizabethtown Planning and Zoning Commission approved a development plan and commercial design Tuesday evening for Olive Garden, paving the way for the restaurant to locate in the city.
Olive Garden officials filed an application with the city in late July to build at 1707 North Dixie Avenue at the former Tumbleweed restaurant location. Tumbleweed has been closed since a June 20 fire and is no longer listed among the company’s locations on its website.
The plan is for Olive Garden to demolish the Tumbleweed building and construct a new restaurant on the lot in front of the Starlite Center shopping plaza. A late sping 2017 opening is expected.
The plan calls for the 6,789-square-foot restaurant to have seating for 267 patrons. The proposed Olive Garden will be about 1,800 square feet larger than Tumbleweed.
Officials said using parking at the Starlite Center, the proposal comes with 550 parking space.
