
A fire hazard has prompted GE Appliances to recall more than 222,000 top-loading washing machines.
The recall involves three models of GE Profile High-Efficiency top loading clothes washers sold in gold, gray and white.
The washers were sold at Best Buy, Lowe’s, Sears, The Home Depot and other stores nationwide from June 2003 through October 2011.
GE Appliances has received 71 reports of internal washing components burning or catching fire.
Consumers should stop using the machine, unplug it and contact GE Appliances by calling 877-830-9732 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or contact the company online by clicking here.
