A Democratic activist and political consultant in Kentucky has pleaded guilty to federal crimes as part of an investigation into a bribery and kickback scheme that ensnared a former state personnel secretary.
Larry O’Bryan appeared in federal court in Lexington on Wednesday. Federal prosecutors outlined three counts of bribery against O’Bryan. Each charge carries up to 10 years in prison. Sentencing is set for January 19.
O’Bryan is the first person charged in the probe since prosecutors filed a criminal complaint against Tim Longmeyer in March.
Longmeyer, an ex-personnel secretary, pleaded guilty to a federal bribery charge. He was sentenced to 70 months on Thursday (9/29) by U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell.
According to prosecutors, Longmeyer enlisted O’Bryan to participate in the scheme.
O’Bryan has agreed to pay $642,201 in restitution for his role in the scheme.
