The judge handling the case of the former University of Kentucky board chairman charged with rape has recused himself.
Daviess Circuit Judge Joe Castlen will not preside over the case of Billy Joe Miles. The 76-year-old Miles was indicted last month on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and bribery of a witness.
Castlen said he recused himself because he had dinner with Miles once and has said publicly he admires the work of Miles’ daughter, state Representative Suzanne Miles.
Jay Wethington, the other Daviess County circuit judge, has already recused himself. Chief Regional Circuit Judge Kelly Mark Easton said a judge from another county will be asked to take the case.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Bruce Kuegel also recused himself from the case.
