Warren County officials say unnoticed deaths are becoming more common as the area’s population grows.
Warren County officials discovered 60 year-old Gwendolyn Johnson on August 14 after a neighbor noticed piles of mail at the house and asked the sheriff’s department to check on her. Officials estimate she had been dead for at least five months.
Officials say so far five people have died inside their homes this year with no one noticing for days, weeks or months.
Warren County Coroner Kevin Kirby urged neighbors to watch out for each other. Officials noted Community Action of Southern Kentucky operates a free courtesy call service for the elderly in the 10 county Barren River Area Development District. About 50 people are enrolled in the program.
