After a decade of discussions and three years in the making, the Ohio Bridges Project is nearing completion.
The ramp that goes from Interstate-65 South to Interstate-64 West, which has been closed since December 2015, will reopen before the Monday, November 14 commute.
The reopening will allow the Kennedy Bridge to be fully operational with six lanes of southbound traffic. Within the next week or so, the Lincoln Bridge, which carries all northbound traffic to Indiana, will also have all six lanes open.
The ramp from I-65 South to I-64 West was a popular one before it was closed. Nearly 5,500 drivers used it daily. The reopening means drivers will see smoother commutes.
Project manager of Walsh Construction, Steve Schauer, says several touch-up projects will continue to take place in various places, including some local roads. He expects all the orange cones to be gone in early spring 2017.
