Monday (11/28) is the day when a controversial Confederate monument that used to stand near U of L’s campus will arrive in its new home along the shore of the Ohio River in Brandenburg.
Crews have been working the past several weeks to get the footers and foundation ready for the 70 foot, 140,000 ton monument at the downtown site. On Wednesday (11/24) construction crews setup a crane next on the site in Brandenburg.
Brandenburg Mayor Ronnie Joyner said the first truck is scheduled to arrive at 8 am Monday (11/28). He said that the deadline to submit items for the new time capsule will be 9 am Monday (11/28) at Brandenburg City Hall. Crews began taking the monument apart last weekend. The statue will become part of a historic Civil War site in Brandenburg, which also depicts other historical moments of Meade County’s history along the river.
The original time capsule that was inside the monument will be kept by the Filson Historical Society in Louisville.
