A victim who claims that he was sexual abused by a Louisville priest took to the stand during a trial inMeade County Circuit Court Monday (11/28).
Joseph Hemmerle is facing nine counts of sexual abuse and sodomy, and in court Monday, the victim explained to the jury the moment he says his life changed forever.
A victim, who is now 53 years old and lives in Texas, relived what he claims was a nightmare at camp. He along with other victims allege that former priest Joseph Hemmerle, who is facing nine counts of sexual abuse and sodomy, abused them during a stay at a church in Meade County.
Hemmerle is accused of sexually abusing and sodomizing a 10-year-old boy in the 1970s at Tall Trees Camp in Meade County.
He helped run the camp for at least 30 years.
The victim told the jury that he had poison ivy at camp and that Hemmerle offered to treat it. But that’s when the victim says Hemmerle abused him. The man said he didn’t tell his mother because he didn’t think anyone would believe him. The victim said he came forward because he needed closure.
Prosecutors called their witnesses as they presented their case Monday (11/28). On Tuesday (11/29), the Defense will present their side of testimony as the trial continues. A decision could be determined by jurors by mid week.
