The man charged in the deaths of two brothers in a 2022 crash in Old Louisville has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Alvaro Edgardo Manriquez, 24, of Whitley County, Kentucky, was sentenced after entering a guilty plea to multiple felony charges, including two counts of murder.
On November 10, 2022, Manriquez was speeding while driving a stolen Ford F-150 when he ran a red light at the 2nd and Hill streets. The pickup collided with five vehicles, three of which were occupied.
Inside the first vehicle struck were brothers Kenneth Rhodes and Jalen Davis-Rhodes. Jalen Davis-Rhodes was instantly killed. Kenneth Rhodes suffered critical injuries and died after being taken to the hospital.
The occupants of the other vehicles involved were not seriously injured.
His arrest report states Manriquez admitted to detectives that he had “ingested some ice” and made the same statement to EMS personnel as he was being taken to University Hospital. Manriquez also admitted to driving the Ford F-150 and doing so without a license.
In addition to the murder charges, Manriquez pleaded guilty to one count of receiving stolen property, two counts of wanton endangerment and five counts of criminal mischief. He also entered guilty pleas to operating a motor vehicle without a license and operating a vehicle under the influence of intoxicants.
The sentences will run concurrently for a total of 20 years in prison. Manriquez must serve 85% of the sentence before he is eligible for parole.
