The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will begin coordinating disaster relief efforts in Kentucky as severe weather continues to move across the commonwealth.
On Friday, President Donald Trump approved Governor Andy Beshear’s request for an emergency disaster declaration.
Multiple areas were impacted by severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding on Wednesday, April 2.
In the Louisville area, between five and seven inches of rain have already fallen. Rain is expected to continue into Sunday.
FEMA has been authorized to “identify, mobilize and provide, at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency.”
“Emergency protective measures, limited to direct federal assistance, under the public assistance program, will be provided at 75% federal funding,” FEMA said in a news release.
The federal assistance has been approved for all 120 Kentucky counties.
