Due to recent flooding across the state, there has been a noticeable rise in vehicle repair cases related to water damage.
While crews continue to deal with the aftermath of flooding and clean up, some car owners are also dealing with needed repairs due to the high waters.
Flood water can bend valves, contaminate oil, and be harsh on the electrical system. One mechanic says he has seen several vehicles last week due to water damage.
He said if it gets inside the car, people don’t realize a lot of electronics are in the floorboards of the car so if any water gets inside the car it will be hard on electronics. Maybe not now but 4-6 weeks later, they just start corroding.
Small amounts of water can make a lasting impact on a car. It only takes 4-5 inches of water to potentially cause engine failure.
Depending on the water damage to the vehicle, repair costs can range from $3,000 – $10,000.
If you recognize any water damage to your vehicle be sure to contact your insurance company immediately. Additionally, if you are unsure if your car has water damage, you can look for signs like rusting and faulty windows or power seats.
It is best to get it checked sooner rather than later to prevent further damage.
