Multiple people were injured after a Madisonville man drove through his neighbors’ yards and later caused a major three-vehicle accident on I-69 Saturday.
According to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office, 61-year-old William Holmes of Madisonville sped out of his driveway just after noon.
Holmes’s neighbor, Shannon King, was outdoors raking leaves in her yard when Holmes struck her with his 2020 Ford Ranger truck.
King was transported by EMS to the Baptist Health Deaconess where she was later transported by helicopter to a new medical facility. Her injuries are unknown at this time.
Holmes then continued down West Lake Loop, entering another yard where Russell Brother and his younger child were sitting in yard chairs.
Brother and the child were able to move out of the way before Holmes hit one of the chairs and continued toward Madisonville.
Brother and his child were uninjured from Holmes entering their backyard.
Hopkins Count Sheriff’s Office was later notified by Webster County Dispatch that a vehicle matching the description of Holmes’s truck was involved in a vehicle collision in Webster County on I-69.
Holmes was driving northbound in the southbound lanes. He eventually collided with a semi-truck head-on, which caused him to collide into a secondary vehicle.
The semi-driver, Elizabeth Duporte-Hobson of Palm Coast, Florida, was transported by ambulance with minor injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision was not injured.
Kentucky State Police and the Webster County Sheriff’s Office said Holmes died as a result of the collision.
